Commemoration of Elmar Huseynov on his birthday
Proponents of freedom of speech honored the memory of Elmar Huseynov, the editor of the magazine "Monitor”, who was murdered on March 2, 2005. Today, Elmar would have been 45 years old.
"By tradition, all who are faithful to the freedom of speech, come on July 17 to the grave of Elmar to show their gratitude,” said the founder of the publishing house "Qanun", Shahbaz Khuduoglu.
He noted that every year the ranks of independent journalists become thinner, and attacks on freedom of speech become stronger. "But all who are committed to the values of freedom, continue the path laid by Elmar, in spite of difficulties and threats,” he said.
head of the “Musavat” Party, Isa Gambar, thanked Sabir Huseynov, Elmar’s father, for bringing Azerbaijan such a great son: "You should know that Elmar is not only your son, but also our brother, friend, and great person for us," said Gambar.
"The Azerbaijani authorities do nothing, and do not intend to disclose the murder. It's not by accident, because it fits into state policy of suppressing freedom of speech in Azerbaijan," said Emin Huseynov, director of the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety.
Supporters of Elmar also spoke about his role in the modern history of Azerbaijan and the development of free journalism in Azerbaijan.
Elmar’s father thanked everyone who remembers and honors the memory of his son, and pays him tribute on the day of his birth, and on the black date of his murder.-0-
