Council of Europe Discusses Ilgar Mamedov Case
The CE Committee of Ministers is holding a meeting in Strasbourg on March 8-10 to discuss the execution of decisions of the Strasbourg court.
Among other issues on the agenda is execution of the decision in the case of the leader of the movement REAL Ilgar Mamedov, the lawyer Fuad Agayev told Turan.
Despite the fact that the ECHR in May 2014 declared Mamedov’s arrest illegal, the Azerbaijani government still has not fulfilled the decision to release him.
Moreover, on the eve of the hearing in Strasbourg on March 7, Mamedov was not allowed to meet his lawyer.
Mamedov was arrested on trumped-up charges of organizing riots in Ismayilli in January 2013.
The court sentenced him to 7 years in prison. Amnesty International recognizes him as a prisoner of conscience. -06D-
