Court to Consider Mehman Huseynovs Appeal on August 24
Baku / 17.08.18 / Turan: The court session on consideration of the blogger Mehman Huseynov"s appeal for conditional early release is scheduled for August 24. Turan was informed about this by Huseynov's lawyer Shahla Gumbatova.
The case will be considered at the visiting session of the Garadagh District Court in Prison No. 14 by Judge Rashad Mammadov.
The defense wants to believe the court will take into account the innocence of the blogger approaching the end of his sentence and will satisfy his request.
The blogger and the chairman of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety, Mehman Huseynov, was convicted in March 2017 for 2 years of imprisonment on libel charges, in connection with a lawsuit against him by the head of the Nasimi district police department Musa Musayev.
The reason for filing the claim was Huseynov's allegations of torture against him at the said institution last January.
However, according to human rights activists, the true reason for the persecution of Huseynov was his video reports about the luxurious villas of members of the government and parliament of Azerbaijan.
Amnesty International recognizes Huseynov as a "prisoner of conscience". -06D-

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
