France Welcomes Release of Ilgar Mammadov
Baku / 17.08.18 / Turan: France welcomes the release of Ilgar Mammadov from imprisonment in Azerbaijan.
"This is the solution expected by the international community, fully corresponding to the aspirations that we actively support in our contacts with the Azerbaijani authorities," the statement of the French Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs says.
France is committed to the full implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights by member states of the Council of Europe, the statement says further.
Mammadov was released after a 5-year prison sentence, which he was subjected to on charges of organizing protests in the city of Ismayilli in January 2013.
The Strasbourg court adopted two decisions on the illegality of the arrest and imprisonment of Mammadov. However, the appellate court only replaced the remaining 1.5 years of imprisonment by conditional punishment with a probationary period of 2 years. -06D--
