Faig Amirov Has Serious Health Problems
The assistant to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan and the financial director of the newspaper Azadlig Faig Amirov has got health problems in the Kurdakhani jail, where he is kept. While in prison he had a chronic stomach illness aggravated. During detention Amirov lost 20 kg in weight, said his lawyer Aghil Lahijov.
The defender expressed fears for the man’s health as further detention could aggravate his illness.
* Amirov was detained on August 20. Two days later, the Nasimi District Court of Baku chose against him a measure of restraint in the form of arrest for a period of 3 months.
The Investigation Department for Serious Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office accused him under articles 168.1 (infringement of the rights of citizens under the pretext of performing religious rites) and 283.2.2 (incitement of national, racial or religious hatred by a person using his official position).
The investigation named Amirov an "imam" of Fethullah Gulen supporters in Azerbaijan.
He denied the accusations calling them ridiculous and politically motivated.
The international organization Reporters without Borders condemned Amirov’s arrest, urging his release. -06D--
