Flu Not "Swine", but Still Dangerous

Baku / 01.02.19 / Turan: Not "swine flu", but "ordinary seasonal flu" is spread in Azerbaijan. The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Azerbaijan, Fatosh Hande Harmanci, said this at a press conference today.

According to her, we are talking about the virus A / H1N1, which has existed for 10 years. According to Harmanci, this virus is "not swine flu". She explained that "swine flu is a type of flu that first hit the pigs" and later became transmitted to people.

Seasonal flu that is observed every year is caused by the A / H1N1 and A / H3N2 viruses.

As Harmanchi noted, the A / H1N virus is currently widespread in Georgia and several European countries. However, it does not differ from last year"s viruses.

For the prevention of influenza, she noted the need for hygiene.

High-risk groups include children under the age of 5 years, pregnant women, people over the age of 65 years, and patients with lung diseases.

Persons with flu symptoms should be isolated and should not go to work and classes. Microbes especially spread in the first three days.

It is recommended that you wash your hands thoroughly with soap and close the mouth with a handkerchief when coughing.

In turn, the Chief Epidemiologist of the Ministry of Health, Ibadullah Agayev, noted that in the event of mass distribution, this department is able to take all measures to combat this.

He stressed that "none of the 16 people who had the A / H1N1 virus in Azerbaijan were hospitalized," and have already recovered.

The presence of the A / H1N1 virus in these people was confirmed by the Republican Anti-Plague Station of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization.

Javahir Suleymanova, WHO Program Coordinator in Azerbaijan, explained that doctors cannot diagnose influenza, since the virus is confirmed only in the laboratory. -06D--
