Ganja case in the case of 16 people continues
Baku / 13.04.19 / Turan: The trial of the Ganja case (riots of June 2018) continued in the Sabunchu court of the capital on April 11-12. According to human rights activist Oktay Gyulalyev, there are two groups of 8 defendants in the case.
The trial in both groups takes place with numerous violations, repeating violations of the investigation. Judges and state prosecutors are trying to approve the indictment, said Gyulalyev.
This caused the indignation of the defendants, lawyers and parents of the defendants. Thus, the defendant Rauf Bayramov wanted to show the court the traces of torture on his body after 9 months. However, the judge did not give him the opportunity to do so. Moreover, the judges are trying in every way to circumvent this issue.
"All the accused spoke of cruel torture and inhuman treatment of them," said the human rights activist.
Oktay Huseynzade and other defendants are charged under 23 grave articles, ranging from killing a man, hiding weapons, drugs, forcible seizure of power, changing the constitutional order, ending with terror, robbery, extortion, hooliganism, etc.
The human rights activist called the charges absurd. Public prosecutors could not really answer the questions of lawyers.
"Many of the defendants during the events were not only not on the square, but also in Ganja in general," said Gyulalyev.
He also does not consider the charges against the court credible.
Petitions have been filed repeatedly for the submission to the court of video from city surveillance cameras, but this was not done. According to Gyulalyev, judges and prosecutors constantly put pressure on the accused, which caused protests by lawyers.
Thus, the lawyer Halig Huseynov stated that there are no conditions for a fair trial, and demanded that Faik Mamedov and Khagani Samedov be removed from the trial.
In response, the judge did not accept the petition and made 5 warnings to the lawyer.
According to Gyulalyev, such a process means that the fabricated charges will be confirmed.
On March 1, the Sabunchu court already passed a sentence on the first group of defendants in the Ganja case: 6 people were sentenced to imprisonment from 6 to 8 years.
In the second group, 8 people were sentenced to imprisonment from 5 to 8 years. In total, 51 people were arrested in the case, and they were combined into 6 groups. -05B-

For years, the receding waters of the Caspian Sea have been a pressing concern for hydrologists and the general public alike. In Azerbaijan, the significant decrease in the sea's surface has become evident through the shallowing of the seabed in Sumgayit and along Baku's marine boulevard. However, recent weather patterns have brought a glimmer of hope.
