Since the beginning of 2020, over the past period, the volume of deposits of foreigners has decreased by 8.7% or 12.1 million manats. The decrease took place only in relation to deposits in foreign currency. Thus, over the past year, out of 105.1 million manats placed in foreign currency, 85.9 million manats remained, and out of 33.3 million manats placed in national currency, the volume increased to 40.4 million manats.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
