More than 45,000 Ammunition Units Collected in Khizi Explosion Area
Baku / 09.02.18 / Turan: Over the past 130 days after the explosion in the military unit, 25,828 unexploded ordnance (UXO), 20,150 remnants of shells and 105,117 kg of flammable materials were found and collected in the Khizi district. This is stated in the message of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
Recall that on the morning of August 27, 2017, ammunition and shells intended for disposal were detonated in the military unit of the Ministry of Defense in the Khizi region (70 km north of Baku).
The Military Prosecutor's Office launched a criminal case under art. 223.2 (violation of safety rules in explosive areas, which entailed grave consequences) and 342.2 (negligent attitude to the service, which entailed grave consequences) of the Criminal Code.
On February 8, the inspection of the territory around the military unit was continued. Detected and collected were 72 unexploded shells and 177 kg of flammable materials.
To date, in connection with this incident, 100,240,706 square meters of territory have been verified.
In general, for 130 days ANAMA checked 12 houses, 46 homesteads, 16 farms, 45 cultivated areas, 13 pastures, 2 schools, 3 railway branches, 1 communication center, 1 television studio, 2 rural cemeteries, 1 water canal, 1 greenhouse, 1 a military town, sections of the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline and the Baku-Rostov railway, economic facilities, etc. -03D06-
