The official newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the significant international event for the country – 42nd Chess Olympiad and President Ilham Aliyev's meeting with Azerbaijani chess players.
At the meeting, he recalled the great success of the First European Olympic Games in Baku and the forthcoming Islamic Solidarity Games. The Head of State noted the Azerbaijani chess players have always had a high rating and won prizes at international competitions. According to him, the development of chess has been a state policy since the 70-ies of the last century.
Azadlig writes that from now on only two issues of the newspaper can be published. In addition to the debt to the publisher, there are also additional problems, the paper’s Deputy Chief Editor Rahim Hajiyev said. Today's issue of the newspaper was printed at the very last moment, he said.
The publisher agreed to wait until 5 September on condition that most of the debt will be repaid. The paper’s position has become even more complicated after the arrest of the director for the dissemination, Faig Amirov. The main problem is the paper’s inability to carry out banking transactions with the money generated by the proceeds from the sale.
‘The public authority, which we have addressed in relation to this issue, is refusing to confirm Amirov’s signature specimen. For this reason, it is impossible to pick up the funds available on the bank account.
Echo writes about the reduction of incoming remittances to Azerbaijan by 50%. This is due to the Russian crisis and the reduction of income of the Azerbaijanis working there.
The Central Bank has also confirmed the reduction in the transfers. In H1 of this year USD 423 million was transferred, while in the same period of 2015 it amounted to USD 546 million.
