Prosecutor's Office Launches Criminal Case against Officials of Azerbaijan State Economic University
Baku / 09/21/17 / Turan: The General Anti-Corruption Directorate of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan has revealed illegal actions of officials of the Azerbaijan State Economic University (ASEU) for the period from May 2012 to April 2014. As a result of the investigation, a criminal case was opened.
As the General Prosecutor's Office stated today, the General Anti-Corruption Directorate investigated the material received from the Accounts Chamber on the results of the audit of the use of funds allocated from the state budget, forecasting and extra-budgetary revenues. During the investigation, substantial suspicions appeared about the fact that in the period from May 18, 2012 to April 1, 2014 official and materially responsible persons of the university, abusing official powers, allowed serious violations of the law when accounting for and collecting tuition fees. In this regard, a criminal case was filed under art. 308.2 (abuse of official powers) and 179.3.2 (appropriation of funds) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
At present, investigative and operational measures are taken for the full and comprehensive investigation of these facts, the identification of perpetrators and bringing them to justice, as well as ensuring the return of the damage inflicted.
It should be noted that during this period the rector of the university was Shamsaddin Hajiyev, who currently remains a member of parliament of Azerbaijan. -06d--
