Protest in Nardaran Completed
The multi-day protest in Nardaran in the Baku suburbs completed after local elders appealed to the participants to disperse. This decision was taken by the elders in the evening of 29 November, following hours of discussion.
It was considered appropriate in order to avoid provocations and confrontations with the security forces, which could be followed by new acts of violence and arrests, to stop the action on the central square of Nardaran and unblock the roads inside the village.
As the elders say, it is first necessary to restore order in the village to get the bodies of those killed in the police raid on November 26 and to conduct the funerals.
On Monday, a delegation will be formed for talks with the government.
After the announcement of the decision to discontinue the action on the square, the people began dismantling the tents, in which the protesters warmed themselves and prayed all these days.
The people also dismantle the barriers in the form of heaps in the streets of the village.
Meanwhile, the roads to Nardaran are still blocked by the police. Light armored vehicles appeared on the posts along with police cars on Sunday.
Only people with the local registration are allowed into the settlement.
The village still has no electricity, which was disconnected on November 27. The fixed telephone line does not work either. Local residents complain about the lack of food due to the limit for admission of trader vehicles to the village.
On November 26 Interior Ministry officers raided Nardaran, as a result of which, according to official figures, 14 believers were arrested. Then two policemen and five believers were killed in the clashes. -0--
