Second Soldier"s Death in Two Days
Turan learned from local sources, soldier Elshan Novruzov died at one of the military units of the Ministry of Defence in Terter today.
Novruzov was called to the army from the Shamkir district a month ago. The Defense Ministry confirmed the soldier’s death, pointing out the cause of death was acute encephalitis and cerebral coma.
Recall, on the previous day another soldier, Orkhan Aliyev was killed at one of the units along the front line. As Turan learned from the Defense Ministry’s press service, there was an altercation between him and his colleague Sevmat Sarbalayev, which developed into a fight. Sarbalaev stabbed Aliyev in which he died at hospital in Goranboy.
Aliyev was drafted from the Kurdamir region, and Sarbalayev was drafted from the Masalli region. A criminal case has been filed.
According to NGOs, in the past eight months, more than 60 soldiers have died in the army. Most were not combat related losses. According to human rights activists, the army often recruits sick men, whoose illness gets worse or men who cannot withstand the physical and psychological stress resulting in a solider’s death or injury. -03B04-
