STATE FLAG COULD NOT STAND THE FIRST WIND
BAKU/03.09.10/TURAN: Last night a storm tore the biggest, the highest and the best flag in the world. The State Flag of Azerbaijan installed yesterday on the newly built square could not stand the first wind. The tax payers have paid 20 million AZN for this fun. The torn flag has been removed from the flagpole after a while. Today Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev planned to show the flag to his guest, Russian President, during the stroll along the boulevard. The project has been designed by the U.S. Trident Support company and implemented by Azerbaijani Azenko company. The area of the square is 60 hectares and its upper part occupies 31,000 sq.m. The flagpole is 162 meters high. It weighs 220 tons, flag weighs 350 kilo and it is 35 meters wide and 70 meters long. Laser show and fireworks have been demonstrated on occasion of hoisting of the state flag. On November 17, 2007 President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to build the State Flag square in Baku and on November 17, 2009 - on establishing of the State Flag Day. From now November 9 is celebrated as the State Flag Day.-0-
