The authorities want to split the coalition of NGOs, Ibadoglu
The government wants to split the NGO Coalition for Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries, wrote on his page on Facebook Coordinator of the NGO Coalition for Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries Gubad Ibadoglu. According to him on January 20 at a meeting of the coalition were elected by secret ballot six members (3 main and 3 spares) in the Multilateral group to improve transparency in the extractive industries. (The group includes representatives of the government, oil companies and civil society.)
Each year, members of the group were taken to the Multilateral secretariat without controversy.
However, on February 2 to the meeting along with the new members of the coalition were invited ex - Alimammad Nuriyev and Sabit Bagirov. Breaking the consensus, they prevented the adoption of the agenda. In protest, the new members of the Multilateral group left the meeting.
To solve the problem of "representation," the chairman of the government commission to improve transparency in the extractive industries Shahmar Movsumov appointed on February 7 the meeting with all members of the coalition in the building of the Oil Fund. Ibadoglu notes that according to the standards of the EITI, the government has no right to interfere in the decision of civil society representation in the multilateral group. At the same time, in spite of the numerous appeals of the coalition members, Movsumov refused to meet with them.
Under the current situation Movsumov’s goal is to split the coalition.
"Therefore, the Board of the NGO Coalition for Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries considers it inexpedient participation of coalition members at the meeting in the Oil Fund on 7 February," emphasizes Ibadoglu. -06D-
