Baku / 10.08.18 / Turan: On 10 August the Baku Court of Appeal canceled the decision of the Sabail District Court to block the site arqument.az., reported the head of the site Shamshad Aga.

According to him, the decision of the Sabail court was appealed today.

"Such prompt consieration of the complaint and its satisfaction was a surprise for us. It is absurd to expect a fair decision from our courts. I stated it at the hearing. At the same time, I defended our complaint," Shamshad Agha said. He also noted that the decision of both courts is of a political nature.

Shamshad Aga said that the decision of the Court of Appeal has not yet been submitted to them, and they do not know about the reasons.

For the first time in Azerbaijan the court reversed its first decision in connection with the cancellation of the blocking the site.

On 8 August the Sabail District Court banned access to arqument.az from the territory of Azerbaijan. The decision was taken by the judge Elmar Rahimov on the basis of a suit filed by Ramiz Guluzade, the Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies.

The minister asked that arqument.az was blocked for posting two articles. According to the site's management, both materials were taken from another site and references were made to them.

The blocking websites in Azerbaijan began in March 2017. Thus, without warning, the sites azadliq.org, freelance.info, meydan.tv, turan.tv and azerbaycansaati.org were blocked. Only on May 12, 2017 the Sabail District Court decided to block access to these sites. -0--
