BP-Azerbaijan to perform 3D seismic survey on shallow section of Absheron peninsula
In November 2016 BP-Azerbaijan company plans to complete 3D seismic survey on the shallow section of the Absheron archipelago, Arzu Javadova, employee of the company’s geological and exploration department, said during public hearing of the Evaluation of Impact on Environment.
“It is planned to start seismic works on March 1 and complete them on November 24, 2016. Total area of the contract bloc is 1,900 sq.km. The seismic survey will cover the area of 1,520 sq.km., of which 90 sq.km. will be onshore,” Javadova said.
The survey will be done offshore using five vessels on the sea depth up to 25 meters.
The deadline for accepting proposals on the evaluation of impact of the world on the environment will be completed at the end of February 2016.
The production sharing agreement (PSA) between SOCAR and BP to carry out geological exploration works on the shallow section of the Absheron archipelago was signed on December 22, 2014.
The contract area totals about 1,900 sq.km, 50% share in the PSA is owned by SOCAR and another 50% by BP.
The works are divided into three stages: primary exploration, main exploration and development of fields.
During the first stage, which will last about 30 months, BP must perform 3D and 2D seismic survey as well as evaluate impact of the works on the environment on the entire contract area.
If during this period BP discovers perspective structures, the company has the right to select up to four structures and switch to the next stage – main exploration.
According to the contract, implementation of the second stage could cover the period up to three years.—0—
