Financing Purchase of Wheelchairs Tripled
This year the government will buy 1,323 wheelchairs for people with limited mobility. Financing the purchase has increased three times compared with last year.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare concluded a contract with the company Instal Service amounting to 996 769.60 manat in December last year, the State Procurement Agency said. The average price of a chair is 753.4 manat. In Moscow, mechanical wheelchairs are offered at 70-150 manat each. These same rates are in the UK (70 to 150 pounds). Note that in 2013 the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection concluded an agreement with the company Design Construction for the purchase of wheelchairs, which amounted to 294,730 manat. Both companies are specialized in the field of construction and repair.
In 2011, wheelchairs were supplied by the small enterprise Revan (298,953 manat), and in 2012 they were supplied by LLC Baktel (243,670 manat).
The number of persons in need of wheelchairs has not been reported. --08B-

In the "Contract of the Century," 13 companies from 8 countries (Azerbaijan, the USA, the United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey, Norway, Japan, and Saudi Arabia) participated. The companies involved were Amoco, BP, MakDermott, Yukos, ARDNŞ, LUKoyl, Statoil, Exxon, Turkish Petroleum, Pennzoil, Itochu, Remko, and Delta.
