In Azerbaijan, GMOs clog fields
Most of the farms involved in the production of crops such as watermelon, potatoes, tomatoes, beetroot, etc, are the seeds of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and therefore it is difficult to find a country farm, about which it is safe to say that it grows environmentally friendly products safe for people. This statement was made today by the chairman of the Association of Free Consumers of Azerbaijan Eyyub Huseynov, at a press conference on the situation in the consumer market in the summer.
"Genie was let from the bottle, GMO clogged our fields and gardens for 10 years to fight this evil with one law would be very difficult," he stressed. According to him, despite the ban, Azerbaijan supplied seeds of genetically modified organisms.
In criticizing the activities of the State Plant Sanitation Service (SPSS) at the Ministry of Agriculture Huseynov noted that its employees do not fulfill their functions. "During the recent monitoring carried out on one of the markets in Baku, our activists discovered that the device, with which SPSS officials checked for nitrite was not certified. Moreover, even this device showed a high concentration of poison in agricultural products," said Huseynov. He stressed that the mobile laboratories of SPSS do not go to the fields for the analysis of the soil.
However, Huseynov said that over the past two years the state has taken several measures to improve the consumer policy. The State Service for Antitrust and Consumer Protection was established in the Ministry of Economic Development. The state has prepared and adopted legislation aimed at protecting the rights of consumers of goods and services. The President stated the need to protect consumers' rights and the fight with the producers of substandard goods. However, Huseynov considers the situation in the consumer market as "critical." -0 -
