Production to be resumed on Kashagan field as soon as reason of gas leakage detected
The oil and gas production on the Kashagan field in Kazakhstan will be suspended till experts announce the reason of the gas leakage and after that the repeated launch will be possible, reads the statement of the project operator NCOC released on Wednesday.
“The experts are working to determine the reasons of the gas leakage in the pipeline. The studies and full examination could take up to several weeks to observe the highest safety standards,” reads the statement.
The signs of gas leakage were detected during check-up of the gas pipeline from the D island on Bolashak plant, 2 km away from the Bolashak plant.
The pressure has been reduced on the pipeline section to ensure its accessibility for the inspection as a preventive measure. The Department of Emergency Situations has been informed. The gas kick, which could be dangerous for humans and environment, was not detected.
The ground sections of the gas pipeline will be unsealed for a through visual inspection.
The offshore section of the pipeline is observed by the vessels and helicopters with the sensors to detect possible gas leakage.
“Nothing abnormal has been noticed so far. The pressure was reduced and the pipeline section from the D island to Bolashak land is emptied,” reads the statement.—0---
