Weak Export Development in ICT
In Baku opened an investment forum organized by the magazine The Economist. Speaking at the forum, the Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov said that investment in the ICT sector in 2010-2014 amounted to $ 2 billion.
Access to the Internet is enjoyed by about 73% of the population, and by 2018 the level of coverage of high speed Internet will reach 85%, he said.
The development of the ICT sector should be carried out in three main areas: infrastructure of the 21st century, the development of areas affecting the socio-economic life of the country, as well as the creation of free tech markets. "In the first area work is carried out on the development of satellite technology and digital television, telecommunications network based on LTE technology, and more. In the second direction e-government is being set up, and our goal is to completely automate the electronic services, of which advantage could be taken by 85% of the population, by 2020," said the minister.
He did not ignore the problems in this area, as there is currently directed to export local production of ICT in the amount of only $ 1 million. So it is necessary to ensure the production of competitive and export-oriented products and services, the official said. --17D-
