Ceremony of laying foundation of TANAP gas pipeline took place in Kars
Trans-Anadolu (TANAP), is first of all the project of the Azerbaijani-Turkish unity, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said yesterday at the ceremony of laying foundation of TANAP in Kars city, Turkey.
Ilham Aliyev said that Shah Deniz is among the biggest gas fields in the world and the only source of resources for the Southern Gas Corridor. President has expressed confidence that the TANAP project’s works will be done according to the schedule. During a short period TANAP has met with support in the world and President called TAP, which was selected as a part of the South Gas Corridor in 2013, the biggest infrastructure project of Europe.
He added that huge gas resources of Azerbaijan will supply the South Gas Corridor and the project will help to create new formats of cooperation between the countries.
The projects implemented through the joint initiative of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia have always been successful, said President and expressed confidence in success of this project as well.
President has emphasized an important role of Azerbaijan in satisfying Europe’s requirements in gas and added that laying of TANAP project foundation on the eve of Novruz holiday is symbolic and wished the project success.
Presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia – Ilham Aliyev, Rajap Tayyip Erdogan and Georgiii Margvelashvili – as well as EC Vice President for Energy Union Marosh Shefchovich, BP company President Robert Dudley and other officials have attended the ceremony.
The length of TANAP gas pipeline is 1800 km, its initial carrying capacity is 16 billion cub.m. According to State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR – the pipeline operator), by 2023 the pipeline’s carrying capacity will be expanded up to 23 billion cub.m. and by 2026 – up to 31 billion cub.m. Of this volume 6 billion cub .m. of gas will be delivered to the Turkish local market and the remaining volume to Europe. The first volume of Azerbaijani gas will be delivered to Turkey via TANAP in quarter 4, 2018.—0—

Discussions were held in Baku within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, focusing on the "Decarbonization and Climate Adaptation of the Cotton-to-Clothing Value Chain." Among other topics, the state of cotton farming in Azerbaijan was also addressed.

Azerbaijan has attracted significant interest from companies in both developing and developed countries, as well as from state and private sector representatives of at least 10 nations, regarding participation as shareholders in the Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF), which has a total budget of $1 billion. The Azerbaijani government has proposed that the OPEC Fund participate in financing several renewable energy projects, including offshore wind energy development, green energy corridor initiatives, and a 1 GW project planned by SOCAR in partnership with the UAE-based company Masdar.
