Kazakhstan Updates Preparations for 5th World Nomad Games
The Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan convened a press conference to discuss preparations for the upcoming 5th World Nomad Games. Key officials, including Vice-Minister of Tourism and Sports Serik Maratovich Zharasbayev and Nail Faridovich Nurov, Head of the Directorate for the Games, addressed significant developments and adjustments.
Zharasbayev highlighted the finalization of organizers and co-organizers, including the Government of Kazakhstan, the World Confederation of Ethnosport, Organization of the Turkic States, and others. He noted UNESCO's recent patronage confirmation and a cooperation agreement with UNICEF, designating them as an official partner.
Updates on venue readiness included ongoing renovations at Alau Ice Palace and Astana Arena, scheduled for completion by mid-August, with Kazanat racetrack work set to finish by July.
In response to cost-saving directives following spring floods, adjustments were made, reducing the Games' duration and participant numbers. Originally expecting over 4,000 participants from 100+ countries, now around 2,000 from 89 countries are confirmed, including nomadic teams from Brunei Darussalam, Liberia, Venezuela, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, and the Gambia.
Exclusions from the sports program, such as Korean wrestling, and adjustments to weight categories were outlined, alongside additions like Kyrgyz Kok Boru and Tatar Koresh wrestling.
Efforts to secure sponsorship from Kazakhstani and foreign companies, highlighted by Nurov, emphasized financial support for prizes, logistics, and ceremonial elements.
Nurov unveiled the Games' medals, symbolizing unity and vitality, featuring traditional Kazakh motifs and crafted from carnelian-colored ribbon, representing energy and perseverance.
