Arrested former MP Guler Ahmadova
A former member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Gular Ahmadova tonight has been arrested in connection with a criminal case after the spread of excited movie in which she discussed the bribe for the election of the deputy rector of the abolished Azerbaijan International University Elshad Abdullayev. Sabail district court chose a preventive measure against Akhmedova - arrest for a period of 2 months. Akhmedova is charged under Article 178.3.2 (embezzlement by breach of trust in a large scale) of the Criminal Code. This information was confirmed in court. If proven guilty, Akhmedova will face up to 12 years in prison.
The above video appeared on the Internet September 25, 2012. Then Abdullayev stated that he handed Akhmedova and her friend Sevinj Babayeva 500,000 dollars for his election as a deputy and to help search for his brother Mahir Abdullayev, who was kidnapped in October 2003. Akhmedova denied the authenticity of the video, and the next day Babayeva left Azerbaijan. September 28, 2012 Akhmedova officially abandoned the parliamentary mandate and expressed a desire to contribute to the objective of the investigation. Akhmedova was later expelled from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.
December 14, 2012 Abdullayev announced yet another video in which Sevinj Babayeva pledged that she and Akhmedova gave 500,000 dollars for the election of Abdullayev to the deputy head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev. According to her, Abdullayev had to get his mandate in the by-election in 2006.
Mehdiyev denied Abdullayev's accusations in his address, calling them "nonsense and provocation." December 28, 2012 news came of the death of Babayeva in the Istanbul clinic. Guler Ahmedova already accused of two articles of the Criminal Code
The Prosecutor-General confirmed the measure chosen against Akhmedova - detention for a period of 2 months. "The investigation has established that Akhmedova to seize other people's property on a large scale in October and November 2005, entered into a criminal conspiracy with her friend Sevinj Babayeva and through her met with the rector of Azerbaijan International University, Abdullayev. Abusing his trust, she gave him a false promise of his election as a deputy and by committing fraud, took $ 1 million from him," said the press service of the Prosecutor General.
In addition, Akhmedova, knowing that, for Babayeva on January 19, 2009 a criminal case was filed under Article 178.3.2 in connection with getting money on a large scale by swindling from a citizen Namik Aliyev and others in May 2007, helped her to escape on 26 September 2012 to Turkey and in particular accompanied her at the Baku airport.
Akhmedova organized illegal residence of Babayeva in Turkey and financed her stay there and, thus, actively prevented her detention and facilitated the concealment of a felony. Therefore Akhmedova is charged under articles 178.3.2 and 307.2 (harboring serious crime) and a preventive measure - arrest for a period of two months was chosen for her, the message concluded. -0-
