Azerbaijani Diplomats Remain in Cairo
The Azerbaijani embassy in Cairo continues to operate at full strength said Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Elman Abdullayev in response to questions about the fate of Azerbaijanis affected by unrest in the country.
The embassy has a "hot line" to help citizens of Azerbaijan, he said.
There has been no decision to evacuate the embassy, and the diplomatic mission is ready to promote the safety of Azerbaijani citizens. The embassy advised Azerbaijanis to avoid places of mass gatherings.
Ambassador Shahin Abdullayev said that the tense situation prompted a decision to evacuate the families of diplomats and representatives of the Diaspora.
If necessary, embassy employees may be evacuated from the country. When the “Arab Spring” began in winter 2011, Azerbaijan embassy employee Nijat Gojayev was killed by a random bullet.—16D06--
