L. Abdullayeva: "Pashinyan's accusations against Azerbaijan are an absolute lie"
Baku/17.07.21/Turan: Nikol Pashinyan's statement that Azerbaijan allegedly has territorial claims to Armenia and impedes the process of border delimitation is an absolute lie, stated the head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva, commenting on the statements of the acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a briefing after a meeting with President of the EU Council Charles Michel.
For almost 30 years, Armenia made absurd territorial claims against Azerbaijan, occupied the Azerbaijani lands, as a result of which more than 1 million Azerbaijanis were deprived of their fundamental rights, Abdullayeva emphasized.
“Apparently, the prime minister of Armenia, which lives on fantasies about “Great Armenia” and still makes territorial claims against Azerbaijan, seeks to create “foundations” for an aggressive, destructive and non-reconciliation policy. We would like to inform Pashinyan that Azerbaijan has not yet made territorial claims to any country. Azerbaijan respects the territorial integrity of countries within the internationally recognized borders and requires a similar approach to Azerbaijan,” the Azerbaijani diplomat continued.
She recalled that Azerbaijanis historically lived on the territory of modern Armenia. In the 20th century, Azerbaijanis were deported three times, and the last time in 1988. “The Zangezur region, its Western and Eastern parts are a historical reality. The return of our compatriots to these lands is their most natural right. This is not a territorial claim, but the return of refugees to their homes: as provided by the tripartite statement of November 10, 2020,” she stressed.
Abdullayeva added that Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity and declared its readiness to normalize relations with Armenia, to begin delimitation and demarcation of the border. “Armenia, on the other hand, comes out from the position of escalating tension, revanchism, and puts forward conditions for peace. It is not difficult to remember how this destructive approach, which it has been demonstrating for many years, ended for Armenia,” the representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summed up. — 06D-
