Lavrov commented on the question of Marat Ueldanov
Moscow / 16.01.19 / Turan: The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the situation around Russian citizen of Armenian origin, Marat Ueldanov-Galustyan, who was convicted in Azerbaijan.
"Questions concerning our citizens, who find themselves in a difficult situation in any country, including in the CIS countries, are regularly affected during our bilateral contacts," the minister said during a press conference in Moscow.
"I dare to assure you that this particular topic was also heard during our recent negotiations with our Azerbaijani colleagues." "I hope that we will be able through the dialogue, through a decision based on legal norms, to reach the result that suits everyone, we will be able to return this citizen," he said.
Marat Ueldanov was detained in July 2016 in Azerbaijan on charges of "illegal acquisition, production, storage and distribution of a large-scale narcotic drugs."
He took the name of his wife (Ueldanov), and under this name he traveled to the capital of Azerbaijan.
In April 2017, in closed session the court sentenced Ueldanov to eight years in prison. Ueldanov himself denied the prosecution, stating that he was suspected of espionage. -02B-
