Moscow believes that Yerevan will not yield to US pressure, Grigory Karasin
Moscow / 12.19.18 / Turan: In recent days, Moscow has increasingly and more insistently expressing concern that the new authorities of Armenia will abandon the traditional pro-Russian course in favor of the pro-Western.
Another manifestation of such concern was the statement by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin. In an interview with RIA-Novosti, he said that during a recent visit to Yerevan, US national security adviser John Bolton demanded that Armenia abandon its historic friendship with Russia.
He expressed concern about Washington"s interference in the internal and external affairs of Armenia, calling the actions of the United States "increasingly unceremonious."
For example, the former US ambassador Richard Mills "publicly taught the Armenian government how to distribute the budget, and demanded from NGOs paid by Washington not to take their eyes off the authorities."
John Bolton insultingly called the historical experience of the Armenian people "historical clichés", and also ordered Armenia to buy American weapons and join the anti-Iran sanctions as soon as possible. If this is the public side of the US-Armenian relations, then we can only imagine what kind of arm-twisting takes place behind the scenes, Karasin said.
Further, the deputy foreign minister of Russia hinted that earlier the United States also gave advice to Georgia and Ukraine, and how it ended.
"We hope that the current leadership of Armenia, which received the necessary mandate at the parliamentary elections, will find the courage to resist outright external blackmail and pressure, will defend the sovereign right to make decisions independently," said Karasin.
Commenting on these statements of Karasin, the spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan said: "We have repeatedly noted that Armenia consistently builds its relations with other countries on the basis of the principle of sovereign equality. We do not build ties with one country to the detriment of relations with another. This position will remain the basis of our foreign policy. "- 02D-
