Society should more actively deal with problems in the army
A debate on the problems of the Armed Forces took place on Friday in the office of the Classic Popular Front Party.
Despite criticisms in the media and serious problems, army leadership does not make any conclusions, and the situation has not changed. For this reason, the number of deaths in the army is growing every year, noted the panelists.
The head of the NGO "Religion, Democracy and Human Rights" Aytekin Imranly called the situation in the army very bad, despite the fact that budgetary funding to the army is growing every year.
Cosmetic measures will not help; drastic measures are needed. Human rights are seriously violated in the army, and it leads to violence.
Public institutions need to create an investigation group, organize public control to completely eliminate the negatives in the army, and carry out fundamental reforms.
The participants also noted that the Defense Minister should be a civilian, noted the transition to a professional army, and rotation of command personnel.
The head of the Union of officers in reserve, Yashar Jafarli, said that until now the status of the army has not been defined. It is still unclear who the army is subject to - the state or the government. "If the army is involved in elections, then it should not have a single command. In the case where the army is subordinate to the state, it should not participate in elections," he said.
Jafarli believes that all problems in the army are created by its leadership, and accused society of indifference to the processes in the military.
At the end of the hearing, it was decided to prepare an appeal to the Presidential Administration. -05C04-
