The prosecutor asks for the sentence of imprisonment for the editor of "Khural" to be 11 years

On Wednesday, the Serious Crimes Court chaired by  Ramella Allahverdiyeva continued the trial in the case of Avaz Zeynalli, the editor of the newspaper "Khural".

At the trial the prosecutor Ramazan  Hadiyev, asked the court to convict  Zeynalli under the following Articles of the Criminal Code: 311.3.3 (bribery in the large size), and 311.3.4 (bribery through extortion.)

The prosecutor also  called to  find Zeynalli guilty of tax evasion and imprison him for 11 years, prohibit him from being in a senior  position within three years, and to pay to the state budget 7250 manat.

Following the statement by the prosecutor, there was a  conflict between   the prosecutor and Zeynalli. Zeynalli accused  the prosecutor of corruption and implementation of political orders, and supporters  of Zeynalli  in the court  sang a hymn of Azerbaijan. Then the lawyer of Zeynalli took the floor.  

The trial has been ongoing since May 2012,  Zeynalli having been arrested in late October 2011 on the complaint of the infamous MP Gular Ahmedova, who currently is accused of large-scale fraud. -16С-
