Will US Policy Change with Respect to Azerbaijan?
The US Embassy organized an event at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the night of November 9 to monitor the voting procedures for the election of the President of the U.S.A.
The leaders of all political parties, except the ruling party New Azerbaijan, were present at the event. Interest in the event was expressed by the leaders of independent NGOs, human rights activists, political analysts and experts. Pro-government forces openly ignored the event and the highest level of participation was the MP Samad Seyidov.
US Ambassador Robert Cekuta spoke about democracy, elections in America and the bilateral relations. “We do not do not know who will be the President, and after the formation of the new administration it will form its own foreign policy,” he said, answering the question, what will be the foreign policy of the new administration.
Even if there is a change of government, until 20 January next year, the President is Barack Obama, he added.
Referring to the bilateral relations, Cekuta said it is too early to say how could Washington's policy towards Azerbaijan change. This will depend on the election results. -03C-
