Iran forms its fifth column in Azerbaijan: expert
Baku/10.01.20/Turan: Iran has been striving for years to form its “fifth column” in Azerbaijan, said Yasamen Garagoununlu, an employee of the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
Commenting on the sorrow of some residents of the country over the killed Iranian military Kassem Suleimani, she noted that Iranian state propaganda is actively working. Through 400 accounts on social networks, a propaganda war against Azerbaijan is actually being waged.
“They call Azerbaijan the “Baku state”, and Absheron -“Tatistan”, the southern region - “Talyshstan”. Instead, the term Azerbaijan is used by "Shirvan", "Aran", "Nakhchivan".
Most of those who mourn Suleymani are the fifth column of Iran. Students in various educational institutions of Iran often express the interests of this country. And when hundreds of thousands of people go to events on the occasion of Ashura, the authorities must understand that in one day they will become a serious base for Iran,” Garagoyunlu said in an interview with Voice of America.
What causes sympathy for the regime of a neighboring state? Answering this question, the expert said that this is primarily due to the common religious affiliation, historically joint coexistence, proximity of cultures. However, sympathizing with Iran, not the majority.
100 thousand Iranian Armenians have 59 schools, two MPs, 14 monuments to the "genocide", 3 patriarchies, 31 prayer places, 9 churches. At the same time, 45 million Azerbaijanis do not have schools in their native language in this country. Of course, the citizens of Azerbaijan cannot put up with a similar policy of Tehran, she noted.
The fifth column’s position is strengthened by the non-formation of an ideology of national identification in Azerbaijan. No work is underway to protect Azerbaijanis fighting for national rights in Iran. However, the identity of Azerbaijani Turks is growing in this country, which is visible to the naked eye.
“Iran is cracking from the inside and the movement of Azerbaijani Turks is intensifying. All these processes may ultimately lead to a split in Iran,” Garagoununlu emphasized. —06D-
