Amnesty International: REAL Activists Should Be Released Unconditionally
Amnesty International condemned the arrests of three activists of the movement Republican Alternative (REAL), Natig Jafarli, Elshan Gasimov and Togrul Ismayilov, in Azerbaijan on these days.
"The Azerbaijani authorities should drop all charges against Natig Jafarli, Elshan Gasimov and Togrul Ismayilov and release them immediately and unconditionally," the 16 August statement of Amnesty International said.
"Recent arrests of three political activists are an indicator of consistently hard attitude of the authorities to ensuring the fundamental freedoms of expression and association in Azerbaijan," the statement said.
The Executive Secretary of REAL Natig Jafarli was arrested on August 12 on criminal charges of illegal entrepreneurship and abuse of office.
REAL activists, Elshan Gasimov and Togrul Ismayilov, were detained on August 15 and the next day they were arrested administratively for 7 days on a charge of not subordinating the police. -06D-
