Heavy rain on June 12, which lasted more than two hours, caused flooding in the Ismayilli region located on the slopes of the Greater Caucasus 180 km west of Baku. The rivers burst their banks and flooded fields, vineyards, gardens and households. The water washed out country roads and highways. Several villages are cut off the outside world, according to local sources. The rain was accompanied by a stormy wind. High voltage power lines have fallen and several villages have become de-energized in the disaster area. The disaster has also damaged natural gas pipelines in 20 villages.
