Preliminary Investigation into Case of Deputy Chairman of Muslim Unity Completed
Baku / 24.09.16 / Turan: The Nasimi District Court extended for another two months the detention of the Deputy Chairman of the movement Muslim Unity, Elchin Gasimov.
Turan was told by his lawyer Elchin Gambarov. According to him, the preliminary investigation has been completed and familiarization with the case materials starts.
Recall that Gasimov was arrested in early November 2015. After his arrest, dozens of believers gathered in front of the Sabunchu district police, demanding his release.
Three weeks later, on November 26, the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a special operation in Nardaran, arresting about 15 members of the movement, including its leader, Taleh Baghirzadeh. They were accused of trying to seize power, and other serious crimes. At trial the detainees reported that for several days they had been tortured and demanded to confess that they prepared a coup in the country together with the opposition. -06B-
