Presentation of the National Atlas of Azerbaijan
On February 2, Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences, presented the "National Atlas of the Republic of Azerbaijan" and the card "The South Caucasus: 1903rd year." President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh, said that national atlases play a basic role in spatial data infrastructures. He called this edition of important historical event in the scientific, social and cultural life of Azerbaijan.
The head of the State Committee for Land and Cartography, Garib Mammadov, said that during the information war the country faced a cartographic fraud. Therefore, the map of "The South Caucasus: 1903rd year" and "The National Atlas of Azerbaijan" are weighty response to such distortions.
There was no National Atlas in the history of Azerbaijan until now, he said, describing the modern notions of the "atlas" methods of atlas cartography and basic functions of the National Atlas.
National Atlas occupies an important place in the development of concepts such as "e-Agriculture" and "precision agriculture".
Director of the Institute of History ANAS, Yagub Mahmudov, noted that Atlas is a valuable primary source for the history of the country. 70 Historical maps included in the Atlas, prove the existence in this land of ancient traditions of statehood. This is stated in the report of Public Relations Center of the National Academy of Sciences.
