Attitude to the referendum on amendments to the Constitution and the price of gas sold to the population are the leading topics of today's press.
AzerTAj has issued a statement by the CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov at the end of the September 26 referendum on amending the country's Constitution.
According to him, the vote was held in 5,627 polling stations of 125 constituencies. The total voter turnout was 69.7% or 3,671,707 people. For recognition of the referendum as held, 25% of the voters had to participate.
According to him, during the day, the CEC did not receive information about violations in the voting. He said the referendum is recognized as valid. The final results of the referendum will be announced in 20 days.
The website Azadliq.info of the Azadlig newspaper published an opinion by the PFPA leader Ali Kerimli about the referendum. He believes the Constitution has been changed without the participation of the people, who boycotted the referendum. The polling stations were quiet, as the authorities were unable to create the appearance of activity, but they actively falsified the vote.
Bizim Yol has published an article about selling gas to the population. The author claims that the number of customers of Azerigaz is 1.93 million. Consumed in the domestic market is 9 billion cubic meters of gas.
Azerigaz is obliged to provide uninterrupted gas supply, but it is periodically turned off for the population. This is due to the loss of gas, which has increased from 890,000 cubic meters to 1,087,000 cubic meters this year. Despite the investment, the gas loss increased by 18%.
It is possible that in fact the gas is sold unofficially to some organizations, and the funds do not come to the state budget.
Compared with other CIS countries, gas is sold more expensively to the population in Azerbaijan. While in Azerbaijan 1,000 cubic meters of gas is sold to the population for 124 dollars, it is sold for 80 dollars in Russia and for 70 USD in Kazakhstan. Thus, the gas loss is covered by the population, according to the author.
