Public figures on the possibility of peaceful coexistence with Armenians
Baku/26.02.23/Turan: The Azerbaijani people celebrate the 31st anniversary of the genocide in Khojaly and Malybeyli. As in previous years, before the victory in Karabakh, a mass march to the memorial in Baku is being held today, meetings have been held in educational institutions, entertainment programs have been stopped on TV and radio.
But after 2020, Ilham Aliyev declares peacefulness, offers Armenians to be friends, return to good neighborliness. Nikol Pashinyan also calls on his people and Azerbaijan for peace. In these new political conditions, are we right to remind the world of the tragedy on February 26?
Turan asked this question to well-known public figures.
Former member of the National Council of Democratic Forces, Eldaniz Guliyev, says that it is impossible to forget thousands of our martyrs. 30 years is a very short period to heal the wounds in the hearts of Azerbaijanis.
"As you know, Armenians are expressing intentions to return Karabakh by force, preparing for a new war. In this situation, I cannot imagine how the two peoples will reconcile. But it is necessary to develop good feelings for everything in the people, then hatred will go away. Eternal enmity between our peoples cannot be allowed."
Historian Eldar Ginesli recalled that in history many peoples have been at war for decades, but then they necessarily came to peace, good-neighborly relations. "This is a difficult path, but we must follow the path of peace, for the peaceful life of our descendants."
Chairman of the Musavat party, Arif Hajili, is confident that Azerbaijanis will never forget the Khojaly tragedy. But the majority of our people are committed to peaceful relations with Armenians, and we see the same signals from the other side.
"If a peace agreement is signed between the two states, borders are opened, the heads of state build diplomatic relations, if there is respect for international law, then peaceful coexistence of the two peoples is possible," Arif Hajili replied.—0—
