Contrary to official statements by Iranian officials for the release of those arrested on April 30 in this country, the citizens of Azerbaijan Khalida Khalid and Shamhal Huseynov still have not been transferred to the Azerbaijani side.
"We are continuing contacts with Iran for the speedy transfer of the citizens of Azerbaijan, " the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman told Turan.
In turn, the former state adviser on foreign policy Guluzade said that Iran's actions are contrary to international law and diplomacy. He noted that Azerbaijani citizens were arrested for unknown reasons.
"The Iranian authorities did not clarify why they arrested the zens of Azerbaijan. In normal legal and democratic states the police explain the reasons for the arrest. According to the Convention on diplomatic service, the arrested should have a meeting with the staff of their embassy or consulate of the country," said Guluzadeh.
As examples, Guluzadeh pointed out that the Russian citizen Viktor Bout accused in the U.S. of supplying weapons to dictatorships is provided the opportunity to meet with diplomats of his country and his family. However, in Iran, international standards do not work.
