The trial in the case of President of AMAY, Abdullah Abdullayev, postponed
Next week the Baku Court of Appeal will decide on the continuation of the trial in the case of Abdullah Abdullayev, the president of the group of companies AMAY, announced his lawyer Osman Kazimov. According to him, the trial began on January 29, but the judge Afgan Hajiyev made a diversion of the judicial staff headed by him. He explained this by saying that he mentioned the name of Elshan Novruzov and two other people. In 2011, a judge Afgan Hajiyev sentenced them to long prison terms. However, the Baku Court of Appeal considered the trial court's decision unreasonable, and changed it a suspended sentence. The judge Afgan Hajiyev considers the current process partially repetition of the previous one, and for this reason rejected the court staff.
Now Baku Court of Appeal is to decide whether the composition of judges will be headed by judge Afgan Hajiyev, or another judge.
Abdulla Abdullayev was arrested on April 4, 2014, he was accused of fraud in the use of funds for other purposes, a large scale abuse of power. Abdullayev has denied the charges against him, believing them to be unfounded, fraudulent and fictitious. -05B04-
