Three Thousand Houses are Effected as a Result of Sunday"s Earthquake in the Western Part of
The earthquake Sunday in Balakan and Zagatala, resulted in walls of 15 houses in 3 villages destroyed. Those affected have moved to temporary accommodations.
In three thousand other houses cracks increased after first appearing from the May earthquake. As told to Turan by deputy chief executive of Zagatala, head of the regional commission of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) Elman Ramazanov. According to him, representatives of MES have assed the state of the houses and schools in six villages. School classes in Danachy and Ashagi Tala villages are suspended. Ramazanov explained, after the May earthquake schools in the villages were seriously affected and have come in to complete disrepair after Sunday's quake.
They are considering various options in order to continue classes. One option is to use prefabricated materials for temporary buildings.
The impact of May's earthquake, the Commission of MES found 3,019 buildings were in need of emergency repair. Of these, 2,786 were demolished. There are 2,494 buildings currently under construction. Twenty-one schools have been built and delivered.
Note: in the Balakan region the earthquake affected about 600 homes, with 10 buildings destroyed. More than 50 social facilities were damaged.
The quake registered 7 points on a 12-point scale and one man was killed. -06B-
