Trial in the case of journalist Seymour Hazy
The Absheron district court continued hearings in the case of an employee of the newspaper "Azadlig" Seymour Ghazi, who is accused of hooliganism.
On August 29, 2014 at a bus stop unknown approached the journalist and insulted him, asking him not to write to Facebook. Then he lashed out with his fists on Hazy and began to beat him. To protect himself Hazy hit the assailant with a bottle in his hand. Immediately police appeared, and took Hazy to the police.
During the trial on January 13 witnesses were questioned, a protocol on inspection of the scene was signed.
Taxi driver Sarraf Rustamov said that he had signed the document on the proposal of the district police inspector Amirjan Salmanov, and he did not present on inspection.
Another witness Abushov Sabir said that he also was told to sign the protocol, although he did not do the inspection.
Amirjan Salmanov confirmed that scene was examined by three employees of the Absheron Police Department. The text of the protocol drew a man named Fuad. Hazy stated that the case was fabricated.
"The interrogation of witnesses confirmed falsification of charges. This is frankly a fabricated case," he said.
"In 2010, I was arrested by administrative order. In prison, I was tortured, and the case is in the European Court of Human Rights. On March 26, 2011 I was abducted by masked men and tortured. A complaint in this case was also sent to the European Court," said Ghazi.
A lawyer Adil Ismailov applied for summons of an investigator Bilal Nabiyev to court, who conducted the preliminary investigation, as well as to establish responsibilities of Fuad Nasibov, who prepared the report on the inspection of the scene. He also asked the court to investigate the question whether there was a correspondence between Ghazi and Hasanov in facebook?
But the court granted only the request for a subpoena employees of Absheron police Nabiyev and Nasibov. The trial will continue on 22 January.—06D-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
