Night Blackout Demonstrated State of Energy Security in Azerbaijan
Baku / 03.07.18 / Turan: The loud voices of state officials saying with and without the reason that Azerbaijan provides not only its energy security, but also the energy security of half or even all of Europe, once again collapsed last night.
As it turned out, all this safety depends on one single 30-year-old transformer in Mingechevir. Once this transformer overheated, all this "safety" system flew in a certain direction.
As it turned out, there is simply no alternative energy supply system for the country in the event of such an emergency situation!
It was enough to break down one unfortunate transformer for the water supply system to be disrupted and for water supply to disappear in the capital. As experts say, water is available, and it is just pumps that went out of order because of the jumps and drops in electricity supply.
After 5 hours of electricity shortage in the country, the authorities cheerfully reported that the country's electricity supply was fully restored. But a little later they shyly admitted that Azerbaijan imports electricity from Russia and Georgia to supply the regions, but the situation at the Mingachevir hydroelectric power station is completely under the control of the head of state. As for the situation at this hydroelectric power station, only one of the blocks failed, after which the closure occurred on the rest.
2002, July 14: the country was left without electricity because of a fire in the wheat fields, where the fire spread to the high-voltage line.
2006, January 29: Absheron GRES short circuit. Half of the country, including Baku, was left without light for several hours.
2010, February 9: Baku and regions were left without light, and the subway did not work. The cause was an emergency on a high-voltage line.
After each of these accidents, the government announced measures taken and the exclusion of such a case in the future.
Before solving the energy security problems of Europe, the authorities of the country should seriously think about their own energy security, once it depends on only one transformer or a high-voltage line. -02B-

On the eve of a large-scale flood approaching Baku, a disturbing incident occurred in the village of Buzovna, where a Lada Priora car fell into the ground, literally collapsing the road beneath it. The driver miraculously remained unharmed but vowed to seek justice, promising to file an official complaint with the prosecutor’s office against Azersu OJSC, the state-owned water supply and sewerage company, often associated with deeply rooted corruption.

In a bit of historic irony, powerful oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili has managed to inspire rare unity across Georgia’s cacophonous political scene twice in his life. His money and influence forged the broad-based consolidation of opposition forces that brought him to power in 2012, and now, 12 years and three electoral cycles later, a similar pattern of opposition convergence could send him packing.

Russian authorities and pro-Kremlin influencers have been spreading false information about alleged Reporters Without Borders (RSF) research into Nazi tendencies within the Ukrainian military, which was featured in a viral video falsely attributed to the BBC. RSF exposes the inner workings of a disinformation campaign designed to justify President Vladimir Putin's war narrative.

I welcome respected media representatives, professional and honest journalists from places of detention. July 22 is an important day for journalists, mass media and teachers of Azerbaijan. 149 years ago, Hassan Bey Zardabi, the great educator, the most valuable thinker, the founder of our journalism, lit the first light for society to come out of darkness, giving humanity the newspaper “AKINCI.”
