lham Aliyev promises to put end to seizure of Absheron coast
Baku/25.07.22/Turan: In recent years, the illegal seizure of the land fund in the country has become widespread. This was stated by the head of state Ilham Aliyev who received on Monday the newly appointed heads of Masally, Geygol and Lerik regions.
“Recently, we began to seriously investigate these facts and saw that there are serious violations. Officials seized land through their local representatives. Unfortunately, this takes place not only in the regions, but in the capital as well,” he said.
In particular, in Apsheron, some officials and businessmen seized and in some places destroyed the rocks on the seashore in the villages of Buzovna. According to Aliyev, a group of activists approached him with a complaint about this, and he instructed the mayor of Baku to handle it properly.
“Great violations were revealed on the part of state officials and a number of entrepreneurs. This is a crime against our history and nature. These rocks are symbols of Baku. Some people decided to appropriate them and build villas there. Unfortunately, there are many such facts and a serious struggle is being waged against law-breakers,” Aliyev said, adding that the authorities are “cleansing themselves” of such officials.
Further, he noted that many high-rise buildings built in previous years in Baku do not meet urban planning standards. He blamed this on the heads of the executive power who issued "illegal permits." Thus, "great damage" was caused to the norms of urban planning, he noted as saying that this was necessary to put an end to it.
* It should be noted that for more than 10 years mass media, NGOs and public figures have been writing about illegal seizures of the coast of the Absheron peninsula. To date, tens of kilometers of the coast have been captured. This happened constantly and everywhere in the sight of the authorities, although the law prohibits construction closer than 150 meters from the seashore. -02D-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
