Resolution of the European Parliament; sanctions may come to Azerbaijan? - Bashir Suleymanli in a "Difficult question"
Baku/16.03.23/Turan: the European Parliament approved by a majority of votes the report “EU-Azerbaijan relations” prepared by the speaker on Azerbaijan, Croatian deputy Jelyan Zobko.During the plenary session and discussions around the report, the majority of Deputies criticized the Azerbaijani authorities for violating international obligations, fundamental freedoms and Human Rights.
The report notes that the EU should not turn a blind eye to violations of human rights and the foundations of democracy based on cooperation in the energy sector with Azerbaijan in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine.The deputies asked to remove restrictions on freedom of expression and media, ensure respect for fundamental human rights, and release political prisoners.
The report calls on the European Union to impose personal sanctions against Azerbaijani officials who grossly violate human rights.
The deputies welcomed the contacts between Azerbaijan and Armenia for the establishment of peace, but expressed concern about the increase in violence at the border.
The deputies called for the fulfillment of humanitarian obligations and the free movement of citizens along the Lachin corridor.
The head of the Civil Rights Institute, Bashir Suleymanli, spoke about this in the program “difficult question” presented by Kamran Mahmudov.

The taxi industry in Azerbaijan is undergoing significant changes as new regulations take effect, leading to a decline in the number of taxis on the road. According to the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (ANTA), legal entities and individual entrepreneurs wishing to engage in taxi transportation must now operate with appropriate permits. This includes obtaining a graduation certificate and a registration card for vehicles not older than 15 years. After July 1, 2024, only cars less than eight years old will be eligible for registration.

According to official data from the State Statistics Committee, the annual inflation rate from January to April 2024 was just 0.7% compared to the same period in 2023.
