Azerbaijani Parliament Concerned about Tax Debt
The Milli Majlis seeks momentary opportunity to raise funds in the state budget.
According to the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Enterprise and Industry Ziyad Samadzade, in the case of adoption of the draft law "On Tax Amnesty," write-off of the tax debt of 600 million AZN is expected.
According to the initial version of the document, the amnesty is provided for all types of business, provided that taxpayers will pay 30% in January of 2017, 50% in February, and 70% of the tax payable before April 1. The law, if adopted could enter into force from January 1 next year.
The MP links the initiative with state support of entrepreneurship and believes that the tax amnesty will reduce the level of debt by AZN 600 million. In practice, this means poor discipline in tax collection and fear to scare away the existing businesses, some of which after the devaluation stopped their work and withdrew their assets abroad - mainly to Turkey and China.
Recall, as of January 1, 2016 the tax arrears amounted to AZN 2.4 billion, half of which is accounted for state enterprises. --17D-
