Dietary Salt Increased by 3.8%
In 2014, the amount of dietary salt in Azerbaijan increased compared to the previous year by 3.8% and amounted to 92.2 thousand tons.
According to the food balance released by the State Statistics Committee, in 2014, Azerbaijan produced 67 193 tons of salt, which is 13% higher than the figure for 2013.
It also imported 15,930 tons of salt. This is 3.8% less than in the previous year.
Last year, the consumption of salt increased mainly due to the food industry, where more than 32 thousand tons of salt (+4.6 thousand tons) was used as additive.
The urban sector used 2,646 tons of salt in the winter. This is 39.2% more than the year before.
The population consumed 35.5 thousand tons of iodized salt. This is 3.9% less than in 2013.
It is noteworthy that in 2014 Azerbaijan exported 6.3 thousand tons of salt. This is 3.4 times higher than the export volume of salt in 2013.
The main producer of salt in Azerbaijan is JSC Azerbaijan Salt Production Association, subsidiary of the company Azersun Holding, which produces salt from Lake Masazir. The plant for refining and iodization of salt was invested $ 14 million. Salt is also produced in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. -08B-

Azerbaijani internet service providers Aztelekom and Baktelekom will introduce substantial changes to their pricing structure starting August 15, the companies announced today. Under the new tariffs, the minimum internet speed will rise to 100 Mbit/s, with the cost per Mbit/s decreasing from 0.45 AZN to 0.25 AZN. As a result, monthly charges will be set at 25 AZN for 100 Mbit/s, 30 AZN for 150 Mbit/s, and 36 AZN for 250 Mbit/s.
