Trash project will be spent another $ 42 million
The Government of Azerbaijan has attracted $ 42 million to continue the implementation over the next three years of the project "Unified management of municipal solid waste." On this occasion, on behalf of the Ministry of Economy and Industry there was signed a January 10 agreement with the World Bank for additional funding this project, the deadline of which expires in May this year.
The main component of the action plan for additional funding will be full rehabilitation in compliance with international standards of the Balakhani landfill for the disposal of household waste in Baku to its operation over the next 20 years. This landfill is operated by the state-run Tamiz Shahar (Clean City) JSC. Disposal of wastes is produced by burning them at the existing power plant at the landfill.
The new project involves the development of short, medium and long-term action plan of the national strategy of municipal solid waste management in Azerbaijan, reforming legislation on waste management in line with international standards. Developed will be feasibility of regional landfills and garbage transfer points.
Agreement on the implementation of the project "Unified management of municipal solid waste" was signed in 2009. Total project cost is $ 41.5 million, including $ 29.5 million allocated by the World Bank, the Government of Azerbaijan and others (including in the form of payment of VAT). -08B-
