A police officer killed in "gas protests" in Iran
Baku / 18.11.19 / Turan: Riots continue in Iran for the third day - more than a hundred bank branches on fire, more than a thousand people were detained, a police officer died from injuries. Authorities have limited the Internet, Radio Deutsche Welle reported.
During the riots caused by rising gas prices and the norm of its sale, a police officer was killed in Iran, trying to prevent an attack on a police station in the city of Kermanshah, the IRNA news agency reported.
In total, during the riots and clashes with the police, which began on Friday and covered several regions of Iran, law enforcement authorities detained more than 1,000 people. Radically-minded rally participants set fire to more than a hundred banks and several shopping centers.
According to several news agencies, the Iranian authorities imposed Internet restrictions on the Saturday night, and the network is inaccessible in many places, which makes it difficult to transmit information about the protests.
The decision to ration sales and at the same time raise gas prices was made by the government on November 15 due to the ongoing economic crisis.
Authorities limited the purchase of gasoline to 60 liters per month at a price of 12-euro cents. Above this volume, the price of gasoline will be from 24 to 30 cents per liter, depending on the quality. This is almost three times higher than today.
Meanwhile, authorities said the protests were inspired from abroad and threatened to punish the protesters. -02D-
