The International Olympic Committee named five cities competing to host the Summer Olympics -2024 Budapest, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Paris and Rome. City winner will be known in 2017. Earlier in the number of applicants Baku was also mentioned. However, according to the spokesman of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the refusal of candidacy of Baku is connected with the preparation of other international competitions - Islamic Games -2017, "Formula 1" and the Chess Olympiad - 2016.
Baku applied for hosting the Summer Olympics in 2016 and 2020, but both times was not included the short-list of candidates.
